Cultivating the Future: Technology for Indian Agriculture
Orchestrated By: SAINTS AND MASTERS
Indian agriculture stands at the intersection of climate risk, fragmented markets, and limited access to technology.
The Bharat Tech Summit 2025 – Agri Tech Hackathon challenges student innovators to move beyond theory and build deployable solutions for farmers, FPOs, and agri-value chains.
Can you detect crop disease using just a smartphone camera?
Can you reduce post-harvest losses using data instead of middlemen?
We are not looking for ideas — we are looking for field-ready solutions
Problem Statements
1. AI for Precision Farming
Challenge:
Develop AI or computer-vision solutions that enable early detection of crop diseases using smartphone cameras.
Key Focus Areas:
• Image-based disease identification
• Low-cost, farmer-friendly UX
• Early intervention to prevent yield loss
Target Users: Small and marginal farmers
Outcome Metric: Accuracy, usability, disease detection speed
2. Supply Chain Optimization
Challenge:
Design blockchain or logistics-based solutions to reduce post-harvest losses for small-scale farmers.
Key Focus Areas:
• Traceability
• Transparent pricing
• Reduction of spoilage and wastage
Target Users: Farmers, FPOs, agri-logistics players
Outcome Metric: Reduced losses, improved farmer margins
3. Water Management (IoT)
Challenge:
Build smart irrigation solutions that optimize water usage using IoT sensors and real-time environmental data.
Key Focus Areas:
• Soil moisture & humidity sensing
• Automated irrigation triggers
• Low-power, rural-compatible hardware
Target Users: Water-stressed agricultural regions
Outcome Metric: Water saved per acre, crop health impact
4. FinTech for Farmers
Challenge:
Create alternative credit scoring mechanisms for farmers using satellite data, crop patterns, or transaction proxies.
Key Focus Areas:
• Non-traditional data sources
• Credit access without formal banking history
• Loan-readiness scoring
Target Users: Smallholder farmers, agri-entrepreneurs
Outcome Metric: Credit access improvement, default reduction
